Christmas is by far and away one of my favourite holidays of the year. Yes, I wish I was somewhere cold and having experienced Christmas in Europe, I feel like I’m missing out! There is something truly magical sitting by the fireplace in an old pub with your Christmas jumper and a big glass of mulled wine. Nevertheless, I still love the holidays and it’s nice to be able to spend time with our family before we become our own little fam-bam!
Due to the impending arrival of baby TUQ, we are keeping it pretty quiet this year. It’s my sister in law’s birthday on Christmas Eve so we’re heading over there for a feast tomorrow. Then on Christmas, we are having a very Australian Christmas at the beach with my parents. We wanted to keep it stress-free this year just in case there was a baby that had arrived or was planning on arriving soon. Thankfully, there is no sign of a baby just yet! I’ve bought a huge turkey which is my favourite Christmas food so I intend on staying around to cook and eat it!
Speaking of cooking, in my week of maternity leave, I started a baking frenzy. I got the recipe for some delicious Christmas cookies from Monika Hibb’s website (I just love everything she does!). They are a basic sugar but have a hint of orange rind and nutmeg which makes them just a little more special. While we were in London, turkey became our Christmas dinner tradition. My TUQ and I both LOVE turkey with stuffing – yum, yum, yum! We don’t really have any other Christmas traditions (other than watching The Holiday a million times) but next year I’m sure we will make some new ones with our little bub.
I added a few new decorations from Country Road to my collection this year. Dusty rose is one of my favourite colours (as those of you that follow my Instagram will already know!) so I couldn’t resist a pink and gold tree when I saw these in the shops.
My favourite Christmas decorations are my little gnome and my houses because they remind me of our travels. The cute little gnome is from the Christmas markets in Copenhagen, the houses are from Amsterdam, the UK and Copenhagen too. I must confess that I have the houses out all year around because they are just too cute to put away!
Reflecting back on 2018, I realised it has been such a crazy year at the TUQ household. We settled back into our home in Sydney, there was a baby announcement and we celebrated our one year anniversary from our wedding. In 2019 we are going to grow to a family of three and I’m so excited to meet our little one and get to know him. I know there will lots more highs (and undoubtedly lows) but Mr TUQ and I are so excited for the new year with our little bubba. A very big thank you to everyone who has followed our journey and been so kind with your comments and support.
I hope you all have a happy holiday whatever you’re celebrating and whoever you’re celebrating with! Remember it’s also a time for giving and I hope you also find some way to give to someone less fortunate at this time of year. And with that, may you have a wonderful few days enjoying this special time of year!
